Red Riding Hood

Written & Illustrated by James Marshall

James Marshall adds a few new twists to the traditional Red Riding Hood story. A wolf with charming manners leads Red Riding Hood to her grandmother's house. Though the wolf does use his cunning to eat the grandmother and Red Riding Hood, a hunter comes to the pair's rescue. Marshall's large colorful illustrations depict the character's emotions while his text flows smoothly throughout the story. Marshall does an excellent job of using humorous vocabulary to describe traits of the characters such as Red Riding Hood's trust and innocence as well as the wolf's ability to make Red Riding Hood forget he's a stranger. A great choice for reading aloud.
